Summary
OTC aims to provide an intergrated service or teaching and assessment to
all candidates. Dynamic and physical activities such as mountain biking and road cycling
do require a certain amount of mobility, as does leading require capabilities
in communication, preparation and person management, but with these to hand
OTC can provide the learning mechanisms for potential leaders to reach their goals..
Current situation
At the moment, all OTC courses can provide effective intergrated learning for
anyone who is capable of riding a bike to the level of
proficiency required by each qualification. It is also expected that should
circumstances dictate, a leader is capable of walking to safety in accordance with the
environment they are leading in, whether it be
trail, technical
or advanced.
Learning environments
OTC firmly believe in an intergrated approach. We create a learning environment that is
open, friendly and supportive. It is encouraged and expected that all
candidates contribute their skills, ideas and knowledge, however extensive or limited they may be.
Further, the methods we use exist to ensure that all candidates are involved
and their skills valued along with their specific requirements being supported.
This is why OTC does not run, for example, women only courses. Rather, for
this circumstance, we work to eliminate the macchismo which alienates others.
Lastly these principles form part of our learning approach so that
course candidates can take them on and into their future leading careers, so assisting
their participants.
How we cater for your needs
In the first instance we have procedures in place to help evaluate your needs,
such as those detailed on all course application forms. Secondly, we are
able to modify the way we provide learning to support, for example,
those who lipread.
All OTC courses are very practical, but in the few sections that do require
documentation, for example parts of the assessment, these can be completed
orally or through other mechanisms.
For questions and advice for potential and existing candidates, we provide
a telephone and email support service. See
contact us for details.
Venues and access
We are currently working to evaluate all OTC venues access facilities. When complete,
this will be published via this and other media.
Our experience
We do not prefess to be extensively experienced or qualified in the provision of
education to those with disabilities, but we do have a range of experience gained
through the cummulatively extensive centuries of teaching gathered by the
OTC staff. Further, we are open minded,
and will ask your opinion as well as seeking external advice to do our best to
meet your needs.
Can we do more?
If you would like to attend an OTC course, and want to discuss the best way of
us helping you acheive your desired goals, then talk to
us about it.
